Safety Notice
CAUTION
For product installation, setup and replacement information not found in the user manual, you will be provided at the point of purchase or distributor. The dealer's manual intended for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics can be found on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For safety, please read this "user manual" carefully before use, follow it for proper use, and save it for future reference.
The following instructions must be followed at all times to avoid personal injury and physical damage to the equipment and the environment. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage that may occur if the product is used incorrectly.
DANGER - Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to the equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- Because each bicycle may handle slightly differently depending on the model, learn proper braking techniques (including brake lever pressure and bicycle handling characteristics) and the operation of your bicycle. Improper use of the bicycle's braking system may result in loss of control, which may result in serious injury from a fall or collision.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. This may cause the product to malfunction, cause you to fall unexpectedly and seriously injure yourself.
- Do not subject the product to strong impact or throw it. Failure to do so may result in cracking, overheating, or problems during operation.
- Avoid the grease sticking to the metal clamps. This may cause wiring malfunction.
- Use only the specified coin cell batteries. When replacing the button battery, replace both batteries with new ones at the same time. Using different types of coin-cell batteries or new and old coin-cell batteries together may cause the coin-cell batteries to burst, leak, overheat or catch fire, which may result in fire, injury or environmental contamination.
- Coin-cell batteries are dangerous and must be kept out of the reach of children. Never put batteries in your mouth or any part of your body. If swallowed or placed in the body, serious injury or death may occur within 2 hours. If this occurs or is suspected, seek immediate medical attention.
- Do not use this equipment in areas where children may be present. In case of accidental ingestion of the supplied coin-cell batteries, seek medical attention immediately.
- Dispose of coin-cell batteries in accordance with applicable local and/or state regulations governing disposal. Disposing of this product in a fire or hot oven, or mechanically crushing or cutting it, may result in the explosion of coin cell batteries.
- Do not use coin cell batteries outside the specified operating temperature ranges. If the battery is used or stored at temperatures outside these ranges, fire, injury, or problems may occur during operation.
- Do not use coin cell batteries if they show liquid leakage, discoloration, deformation, or other unusual signs. Failure to do so may result in cracking, overheating, or problems during operation.
- If leaking coin cell battery liquid gets on your skin or clothing, wash it off immediately with clean water. Leaking liquid can damage your skin.
- Do not leave this product in an extremely high temperature environment, such as in a closed vehicle on a hot day, or near a heater. Doing so could cause coin cell batteries to explode or leak flammable liquid or gas.
- Do not expose this product to extremely low air pressure. Doing so could cause coin cell batteries to explode or leak flammable liquid or gas. Air transportation of this product is not a problem.
- Be careful not to get your fingers caught in the shifter when operating the shifter. The powerful motor that drives the electronic gear shifter will run without stopping until the shift position is reached.
- This hydraulic brake system has different braking characteristics than the rim brake type, which indicates a relatively large braking force at the start of braking (higher than the rim brake type); familiarize yourself with the braking characteristics before use. If you ride the bicycle without thoroughly familiarizing yourself with the braking characteristics, braking may result in you falling off the bicycle, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.
- The braking power of the hydraulic brake system will increase with the size of the disc brake rotor (140mm, 160mm, 180mm, 203mm).
- Do not use the 203mm disc brake rotor. This will increase the braking force excessively, which can cause you to lose control of the bike, crash and seriously injure yourself.
- Only use the 180mm disc brake rotor if you cannot get enough stopping power with the 160mm disc brake rotor during a test ride, such as when riding an e-assist road bike or if the rider is heavy. Otherwise, you may lose control of the bicycle, fall and seriously injure yourself.
- If the braking force seems too great or too little, stop using it and consult the place of purchase or the distributor. Loss of control of the bicycle may result in accidents or falls resulting in serious injury.
- Keep your fingers away from the rotating disc brake rotors. The disc brake rotor is sharp enough to cause serious injury to fingers if fingers become caught in the openings of the moving rotor.
- Do not touch the calipers or disc brake rotor while riding or immediately after dismounting the bicycle. During braking, the calipers and disc brake rotor become hot, so if you touch them, you can burn yourself.
- Do not allow oil or grease to get on the disc brake rotor and brake pads. Riding a bicycle with oil or grease on the brake pads may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or crash.
- Check the thickness of the brake pads and do not use them if they are 0.5mm or less. This may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.
- Do not use the disc brake rotor if it is cracked or deformed. The disc brake rotor may break and result in serious injury from a fall.
- Do not use the disc brake rotor if its thickness is 1.5 mm or less. Also, do not use it if the aluminum surface is visible. The disc brake rotor may break and result in serious injury from a fall.
- Do not use the brakes continuously. This can cause a sudden increase in brake lever action, causing the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.
- Do not use the brakes if there is a fluid leak. This can cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.
- Do not use the front brake too hard. If you do this, the front wheel may lock up and the bicycle may tip forward and cause serious injury.
- Since the required braking distance will be longer in wet weather, reduce your speed. Apply the brakes early and gently. You may fall or crash and be seriously injured.
- Wet road surfaces can cause tires to lose traction. To avoid this, reduce your speed and apply the brakes early and gently. If the tires lose traction, you may fall and be seriously injured.
WARNING
- Warnings about genuine SHIMANO mineral oil
- In case of eye contact, flush the eye with clean water and seek medical attention immediately. Contact with the eyes can cause irritation.
- In case of contact with the skin, wash it properly with soapy water. Skin contact may cause rashes and discomfort.
- Protect your nose and mouth with a protective breathing mask and use in a well-ventilated room. Inhalation of mineral oil vapors or vapors may cause nausea.
- After inhaling mineral oil vapors or vapors, immediately move to a place with fresh air. Cover yourself with a blanket. Stay warm in a stable position and seek professional medical attention.
Warm-up time
- Disc brakes have a certain warm-up time and braking power gradually increases as the warm-up time increases. Losing control of the bicycle may result in accidents or falls resulting in serious injury. The same situation occurs when replacing brake pads or disc brake rotor.
