CAUTION
Information on installation, setup and replacement of products not found in the user manual will be provided to you at the place of purchase or distributor. The dealer's manual intended for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics can be found on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For safety, please read this "user manual" carefully before use, follow it for proper use, and save it for future reference.
The following instructions must be followed at all times to avoid personal injury and physical damage to the equipment and the environment. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage that may occur if the product is used incorrectly.
DANGER - Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to the equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- To ensure the safety of children using this product, children should be instructed on proper use after both guardians and children have fully understood the following information. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. It may cause the product to malfunction, you may fall unexpectedly and seriously injure yourself.
- Be careful when using the pedals in competition or aggressive riding. The cleats can accidentally come loose from the pedals and you can fall off the bike. These pedals are for recreational use and are therefore designed to be easier to engage and release from the cleats than SPD pedals.
- Before attempting to ride with these pedals and cleats (on shoes), make sure you understand the operation of the locking/release mechanism on the pedals and cleats (on shoes). SPD pedals are designed to release only when needed. They are not designed to release automatically when you fall off the bike.
- Only use SPD compatible shoes with this product. Other types of shoes may not release from the pedals or may release unexpectedly.
- Use only SHIMANO cleats (SM-SH51 / SM-SH56) and securely tighten the mounting screws to the shoes. Failure to tighten the screws securely may result in a fall where the cleats do not release.
- Before attempting to ride with these pedals and cleats, apply the brakes, then put one foot on the ground and practice engaging and releasing each cleat from the pedal until you can do it automatically with minimal effort.
- Ride on a flat surface first until you learn how to engage and release stops from the pedals.
- Before driving, adjust the holding force of the stops on the pedals according to your needs. If the holding force of the stop on the pedals is small, the stops may accidentally come loose, you may lose your balance, and you may fall off the bicycle. If the holding force of the stopper on the pedals is large, the stoppers may not be released easily.
- When driving at low speed or when there is a possibility that you will need to stop (e.g. when making a full turn, at an intersection, when driving uphill or turning a sharp corner), release the stoppers from the pedals in advance so that you can quickly put your feet on the ground if necessary.
- While riding in in adverse conditions, use less cleat holding force to attach pedal cleats.
- Keep cleats and binding free of dirt and debris to ensure proper fit and release.
- Remember to check cleat wear regularly. When the cleats are worn, replace them and adjust the holding force of the cleat before riding and after replacing the pedal cleats.
- If you do not heed the above warnings, the shoes may not slip out of the pedals when you want them to, or they may slip out unexpectedly or accidentally, resulting in serious injury.
- Reflectors must be installed on the bicycle whenever riding on public roads. Reflectors are sold separately for models that do not come standard with reflectors. Information regarding compatible reflectors can be obtained from the place of purchase or from the distributor.
- If the reflectors are dirty or damaged, do not continue riding the bicycle. Otherwise, it will be difficult for oncoming vehicles to spot you.
- Do not use the pedals or stops in a way other than the way described in the user manual. When the cleat and pedal are facing forward, the cleat can be released and engaged with the pedal.
Read the owner's manual carefully for instructions on how to use the cleats. Failure to follow instructions may result in serious injury.
- Read the instructions and select the correct product for your needs. Consider the type of bike, the terrain you will be riding on, and the conditions. Single release mode cleats (SM-SH51) and multi release mode cleats (SM-SH56) are available for use with these pedals. A cleat such as single release mode cleats (SM-SH52) and multi-way release mode cleats (SM-SH55) cannot be used as they do not have certain functions, such as not providing stable foot release efficiency and sufficient holding force. If you continue to use such cleats, the shoes may not slip out of the pedals when you want them to, or may slip off unexpectedly or accidentally, resulting in the bicycle falling and causing serious injury. phone: +81-72-223-3210 / FAX:+81-72-223-3258
