DANGER - Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to the equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- To ensure the safety of children using this product, children should be instructed on proper use after both guardians and children have fully understood the following information. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. This may cause the product to malfunction, cause you to fall unexpectedly and seriously injure yourself.
- Before attempting to ride with these pedals and cleats (shoes), make sure you understand the operation of the lock/release mechanism of the pedals and cleats (shoes). SPD pedals are designed to release only when needed. They are not designed to release automatically when you fall off the bike. - Use only SPD compatible shoes with this product. Other types of shoes may not release from the pedals or may release unexpectedly.
- Use only SHIMANO cleats (SM-SH51 / SM-SH56) and securely tighten the mounting screws to the shoes. Failure to tighten the screws securely may result in a fall where the cleats do not release.
- Before attempting to ride with these pedals and cleats, apply the brakes, then put one foot on the ground and practice engaging and releasing each cleat from the pedal until you can do it automatically with minimal effort.
- Ride on a flat surface first until you learn how to engage and release stops from the pedals.
- Before driving, adjust the holding force of the stops on the pedals according to your needs. If the holding force of the stop on the pedals is small, the stops may accidentally come loose, you may lose your balance, and you may fall off the bicycle. If the holding force of the stop on the pedals is large, the stops may not be released easily.
- When driving at low speed or when there is a possibility that you will need to stop (e.g. when making a full turn, at an intersection, when driving uphill or turning a sharp corner), release the stops from the pedals in advance so that you can quickly place your feet on the ground if necessary.
- When driving in in adverse conditions, use less cleat holding force to attach pedal cleats.
- Keep cleats and binding free of dirt and debris to ensure proper fit and release.
- Remember to check cleat wear regularly. When the cleats are worn, replace them and adjust the holding force of the cleat before riding and after replacing the pedal cleats.
- If you do not heed the above warnings, the shoes may not slip out of the pedals when you want them to, or they may slip out unexpectedly or accidentally, resulting in serious injury. Reflectors are sold separately for models that are not standardly supplied with reflectors. Information regarding compatible reflectors can be obtained from the place of purchase or from the distributor.
- If the reflectors are dirty or damaged, do not continue riding the bicycle. Otherwise, it will be difficult for oncoming vehicles to spot you.
Models with grip force adjustment pins:
- If you are not sure how to adjust the pins on the pedals, please contact the place of purchase or distributor.
- Lift your feet off the pedals and move them to the side to release them from the pedals. Place one foot firmly on the ground and practice putting and taking the other foot off the pedal until you get the hang of it. Otherwise, you may fall and seriously injure yourself. If you can't get used to this action, use the product with installed spacers. - Use clothing and protective equipment that are suitable for the way you use the bike. Because the tips are very long, they can cause serious injury if they come into contact with the skin.
